Robotic Vehicles coming soon?
Asimo Blog By Mitch Ronco on 11/13/2006 10:52 PM

It seems that the robotic cars that we were promised in all of those 1960s films are almost here.  Now if only they can bring us those flying cars that we all really want:

Original Story:  Robot cars rev up for the city (CNN.com)
A car that can drive itself is the fantasy of any designated driver, but the dream of owning a vehicle that does all the driving while you sit back and relax is one step closer to reality, as in-car artificial intelligence being developed by a team at Stanford University is ready to be used on city streets in the ultimate test of robot cars.

David Hanson and his Robots
Asimo Blog By Mitch Ronco on 11/8/2006 10:58 PM

It may be just a coincidence that his last name is so reminiscent of that Genius of muppetry, Jim Henson; but, David Hanson may be the man to bring the personal robot to America in a big way.

Original story here:
Face of things to come in robots (KING 5 Seattle)
David Hanson is at the vanguard of a stealth robotic invasion. The doctoral student, who recently won a $1.5 million grant to commercialize his humanoids, seems an unlikely commander for a fleet of marching, chatting 'bots. But Mr. Hanson's cluttered workshop is on the cutting edge of a quietly booming industry that may not stay quiet for much longer.

How far has Artificial intelligence come in the last 4 decades?
Asimo Blog By Mitch Ronco on 10/27/2006 10:11 PM

AI has been a fantasy for hundreds of years, albeit in less than scientific terms.  The mirror that the wicked queen queries from time to time in the fable of Snow White embodies our basic tenets of a human like non human intelligence.  Since Alan Turing set forth his TURING TEST  to determine whether a machine was intelligent (i.e. would pass as human), we have eagerly anticipated the day that this might happen.  Many anticipated this as a multi century achievement; but, others have been shocked that the test has not been rendered irrelevant decades ago.

Here are a couple examples that make this journalist believe that we are getting closer:

1.  Alice, has been around for quite some time; but, never has she waxed so eloquent!

Pet Robots?
Asimo Blog By Mitch Ronco on 9/29/2006 10:48 PM

As technology gets better, Robots are becoming more human.  Scientists are even working on cosmetic skin for robots which feels entirely human.

Weird as very human robots may strike us, how do we feel about the following feline automaton from Sega Toys named Yume-Neko Smile (”Dream Cat Smile”).
